2 healthy snacks to make kids after school

School will be in session soon, if it hasn’t already started for some kids! After school kids are hungry. And there are some really easy, no-bake, dessert-like snacks that you can make that are also healthy for your kids. I will start with Frozen Yogurt Covered Blueberries:

Ingredients

  • Blueberries
  • Greek Yogurt (and flavor you like!)
  • Parchment or Wax Paper
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Toothpicks

Instructions

Start by washing blueberries in a strainer and removing any stems. Scoop your yogurt into a bowl and lay out parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Then take a toothpick, harpoon a blueberry and dip into the yogurt. I highly suggest sticking with Greek yogurt because it is thicker. After you cover your blueberries in Greek Yogurt happiness, begin laying out your berries on the parchment-covered cookie sheet. Once your cookie sheet is full, pop in the freezer for at least 90 minutes to firm up. Once frozen, remove from the freezer and dump into a bowl for immediate consumption or put in a freezer safe container and keep frozen until ready to eat.

Next recipe is Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Banana Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • Ripe Bananas
  • Peanut Butter
  • Dark or Milk Chocolate Melting Wafers
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Wax Paper

Instructions

Peel the bananas and cut them into slices that are about 2 inches thick. Then spread peanut butter on one side and make a sandwich with another slice. After you make as many sandwiches, take them and place them on a cookie sheet with wax paper and place it in the freezer for about 30 minutes until they are semi-hard.

Melt the wafers in the microwave ( takes about 1 minute) in a microwaveable safe bowl. Then start to dip half of the bananas of each sandwich and place it again on the cookie sheet with wax paper.

Pop them into the freezer for about another 30 minutes and once they are hard, you can take them out and serve them immediately or place them in a freezer container and eat them whenever!

Let’s Hop Towards Easter

Easter is just around the corner; literally.  Here are 2 fun and easy #DIY projects that you can do for either an Easter treat or an Easter Decor.

On the left are Easter Baskets using mason jars.  Now if they young you can use plastic jars that they sell in dollar stores and even craft stores.  But I find these are best, because who really wants to spend money on a stupid basket that the kids are not going to even care about?  All they care about are the treats inside!

On the right is a fun bunny you can make either using marshmallows or white gum balls or white colored Easter candy! Then you can draw a face on the jar, and use thick felt to make the ears. You also will need to use a glue gun to glue them to the top.

Overall, Easter is a fun time and these two DIY projects make it even better!

Valentine’s Day DIY

Don’t look now, but Valentine’s Day is approaching! It’s only 3 weeks away! This can be a really fun day for everyone – and that includes little kids! I used to be a preschool teacher and I loved doing crafts with my class.  This day was really fun!

Here’s a quick little DIY project that you can do with your class or at home.

tic tac toe

This can work in a few ways:

First off, you will need to cut out a heart and draw the Tic Tac Toe board on the heart. Next, you will have to make the hearts.  You can either get these puffy hearts at the craft store and use those, or you can make your own.

You will have to cut out 20 small hearts; 10 in red and 10 in pink.  Then you will need to glue HALF the heart together and leave an open side. Once it dries, you can rip apart some cotton balls and stuff them into the hearts.  You will only need to use 1-2 cotton balls per heart.

Next you will need to glue the heart shut.  Once it dries you can now go ahead and play Tic Tac Toe!
